RED OCTOBER IV: October 2025 Viewing Guide

Welcome to your 31 Days of Halloween!

Here at Red River Horror, we do our viewing guide a bit differently from the others. Not that we don’t LOVE everyone else’s calendar — we do — and we watch multiple lists each and every October. But here, we always like to take the hard way down the Channels of Fear to ensure everyone on the team has a voice, and that our list doesn’t get so obscure that the viewer feels overwhelmed.

We want you to be comfortable during horror’s favorite month. Also, we’ll ALWAYS get by with a little help from our friends (like Joe D from Different Take on YouTube) who has joined Joe and me on our RRH Red October Selection Show two years running. Joe D also created the interactive calendar you saw on-screen during this year’s broadcast which allowed us to move the different films around.

We’ll get to that in a minute.

So…how did we select this year’s films to fill out the 31 Days of Halloween, you ask? Great question. We decided it’d be best to honor the Silver Anniversary of the new millennium and only accept horror movies released from 2000-2025. From there, we extracted all of the films released in that range that made the cut for RED OCTOBER I – III, and they were automatically put into the pot of selections for RED OCTOBER IV (RRH’s October Viewing Guide for 2025).

Then, we asked Red River Horror contributors Staci Layne Wilson, Joe Zakrzewski, Melissa Caiazzo, Dr. Halloween, Joe D’Angelo, and friend of the site and movie critic Christian Toto to submit three movies that they MUST watch this October from the designated release date period. I submitted my three as well. These films submitted by the team could also be films that were on previous RED OCTOBER lists, leaving us with 39 total films in contention.

The 39 films were then selected at random out of a Slimer (from Ghostbusters) popcorn bucket and assigned a date on the calendar. Then, Joe Z, Joe D., and I each could STRIKE one film from the list, and MOVE one film from the list to a different date.

Confusing? Joe and Joe thought so, too 🙂
